Happy New Year!
It is my wish that everyone has a happy, safe, healthy, more prosperous New Year. May everybody, all Michiganders at heart and their teams have a better 2009.
Oh, one more thing. What did one frog say to the other on Jan 1st? Hoppy New Year!
Sorry, that one was bad.

Lions lose another game. Let us count the many ways.
Lions kings of the jungle. Not in the jungle that is the NFL. Enough already!
Once again the Detroit Lions are proving why they are an inept football team. They were beaten by the Titans 47-10 in yet another Thanksgiving game. What many thought would be a Lions much needed victory, turned into another reason why this team is in trouble.
I just don't get it. How can a team that was 4-0 in the pre-season, 7-9 last year be win less this year. What went wrong? Is this any way of celebrating 75 seasons as a team? That your games keep getting blacked out.
I'm well aware that the team still needs to clean up from what I call Hurricane Millen. I also know that we made some bad moves by letting go of running back Kevin Jones, wide receiver Roy Williams, line backer Boss Bailey and putting Mike Furrey on IR. But come on, we shouldn't be this bad.
Ok, ok, the firing of Matt Millen was one step in the right direction. So was the hiring of quarterback Dante Culpepper. Can the Fords turn this team around? Or is William Ford Sr. clueless at running a team?
How can you be 7-9 last year and keep losing this year? The Lions should be a professional team, not look like a bunch of pre-schoolers. If Rod Marinelli is a good head coach, then why can't he turn this team around. Or is it the Lions fate that no matter who we get, they lose anyways.
If the Lions don't learn from their mistakes and correct their course this season and beyond, then we could even lose the privilege of playing on Thanksgiving Day.
They could have a perfect record of 16-0 losses. CUT THE CRAP, ENOUGH!

Wolverines lose again. Be patient fans.
The good news: the Wolverines won't lose any more football games. The bad news: the season is over.
After a much anticipated season with new head coach Rich Rodriguez, the Wolverines went 3-9 for the season. The season ending heart breaker lost to Ohio State 42-7 capped off what many call a hard year for Michigan. We were even beaten by the Spartans in an upset for the ages.
My question is this. Were fans too spoiled by Michigan's past? Did we expect Rich Rodriguez to be a miracle worker? Did Michigan get too cocky for their own good?

Ok, OK the last few seasons has their troubles too, especially with the historic lost to Appalachian State in the 2007 season opener. But Lloyd Carr was able to make adjustments later in the season and close out his career with a win in the Capital 1 bowl. The team was also spoiled with the talents from the terrific trio: of Jake Long, Chad Henne and Mike Hart.
Look Rich Rodriguez is not Lloyd Carr, but there must be some reason why he was hired. Where is the genius that he had at West Virginia? Also can he get this team used to his methods and the spread offense? Can his system work in Michigan? Can he rebuild this team?
It's going to take time to get Michigan back to their winning ways. It's also going to take time for these players to adjust to Rich Rods' way of doing things. If he is a great coach, then he should learn from his mistakes this year and make adjustments. He can't underestimate the opposing teams.
Michigan cannot be turned around overnight, but the Wolverines and Rich Rod will get it right. Michigan fans: be patient, have faith. Soon we will "Hail to the Victors" once again.
GO BLUE!

Fall is here. Can Detroit turn over a new leaf
Fall means many things to many different people.
For some it's the leaves changing color. For others it's shorter days and colder weather. But for Detroit, it's a new mayor and a chance to renew itself.
After months of scandal that rocked city hall and brought disgrace to Detroit, former mayor Kwame Kilpartick pleaded guilty to two felonies and no contest to a third after lying about text messages with his chief of staff. As a result, he had to step down in disgrace. In his place is interim mayor Ken Cockrel Jr. After all the months of scandal and heartache, Detroit has a shot at redeeming itself and start the healing process.
My advice to his honor Mayor Cockrel is this; make Detroit very proud of you. Keep your word and never lose your integrity. Do what you promised and clean up Detroit. Don't lose this opportunity to fulfill the promise of making Detroit the world class city that we know it is.
God bless Detroit!

Michigans golden man is on track to win 8 medals. Is Michael Phelps the greatest Olympian
Hail to a Michigander!
Kudos to the Wolverines own golden man Michael Phelps for winning 5 gold medals in swimming at the 2008 Beijing games. And for being one of the most decorated US Olympians of all time.
If Phelps dominates the remaining three events as the previous five, then he will won more medals than any other Olympian. But is he the greatest Olympian ever? Only time will tell if he can win all eight events and can make that claim.
Go Michael! Make Michigan and America proud of you!

Tigers Trade Catcher. Is Dave Dombrowski pulling a Kwame Kilpatrick?
Dave Dombrowski should have his head examined for holes in it. Mike Illitch also needs to see if the team president has any ethics.
The team president for the Tigers made a surprise move by trading their catcher to the Yankees for relief pitcher Kyle Farnsworth. Detroit, and our beloved Tigers got screwed again.
How could you trade a solid player for a guy who could be a bust. Dombrowski said it himself that he was one of the reasons for our resurgence. So why cut off the hand that fed you?
Why not trade somebody not useful. And didn't the Tigers say that he was not to be traded earlier when asked about him? And what about the rumors that he wanted out, keep him anyways. Maybe he would come back next season as a free agent. Is Dombrowski waffling like breakfast?
Look I know that we needed relief pitching, but you need to give Todd Jones more chances and time to heal. And why take back Farnsworth when you traded him in 2005? And what about the other misfire of trades that were done. Like acquiring bust Dontrelle Willis, letting go of Craig Monroe and ace pitcher Jair Jurrins. With decisions like these no wonder Carlos Guillen was the lone all star. What's next Dave, cut Guillen, Maggs and the rest of our team too?
Maybe I'm wrong and maybe the Tigers will come out alright. After all we got Miguel Cabrera, Polanco and Maggs. I hope that this trade works out or a lot of Tiger fans would have Dombrowski pull down his pants and YANK KEYS!
With bonehead moves like this no wonder we are not in first place. Do whatever it takes to get him back in Detroit. Detroit fans deserve and earned it.

Is Brett Favre a brat?
Brett Favre waffles more than a box of Eggos.
First Brett says, he wants to retire and he did. Now he changes his story and wants to come back. Is he pulling a late April fools joke on the Packers? What B.S. is the former cheddar boy pulling?
First of all, you don't act like a drama queen and announce that you're going to retire only later decide that you want to come back. To top it off he wants to be head quarterback again or be traded. The Packers already said that Aaron Rodgers was their new starting quarterback. Now the new wrinkle is that during the opening days of training camp, Brett isn't showing up yet. What gives?
Look , if he wanted to retire, be done with it. He already had enough and it's not fair to the rest of the Packers. Don't say that he was forced into retiring. It' s also not fair to hold a team hostage and demand a trade if he was not the top quarterback. They don't have to play Brett. He quit, duh!
If Bret wants to save what's left of an already damaged reputation, then he should do the right thing. Either accept being the back up quarterback or just go away. Far away.
If there's no Brett Favre, look on the bright side. Maybe the Lions will finally beat the Green Bay cheddar boys.

A-rod's wife asks for divorce. Marriage is tough enough, even without being a celeb.
Unless you live under a rock or don't have access to media, then you have heard about Alex Rodriguez's nasty divorce. Another celeb marriage biting the dust, yawn.
The Yankees slugger and his wife are divorcing over his alleged extra martial affairs. His wife Cynthia also claims that he has emotionally abandoned his family. The divorce preceding followed reports that the all star had dinner with Madonna.
Any divorce is bad and painful. But celeb divorces are considered the nastiest and most painful ones of all. Not only do they have the ugliness of breaking up a family, but many are doing it in the court of public opinion. And notably millions are at stake.
For any marriage to work, it takes a great deal of commitment and sacrifice. For a celeb marriage to work it almost takes superhero powers. Not only do they have to deal with their partners, they have many other obstacles that us average folks don't.
They have to deal with the glare of the media scrutiny and high profile careers. They deal with crazed fans, the photographers, and the pressure of keeping up the illusion of holding it together when things are falling apart. They also have more opportunities to cheat on their spouses. It's no wonder why so many celeb marriages fail.
Breakups are painful and they should be private. So the next you see a celeb couple, be thankful for not being one.

Rampage head to conference final
A winning football team in Grand Rapids?
No, it's not a NFL expansion team, but the Grand Rapids Arena Football team that is headed to the conference finals. The Rampage advanced to the American Conference finals by beating the Chicago Rush 58-41.
If the Rampage defeat the San Jose SaberCats, they will play the winner of the Cleveland Gladiators vs.Philadelphia Soul contest in the Arena Bowl.

Tiger Stadium will soon be Looong Gone
Only in Detroit can they take something and make nothing out of it.
Tiger Stadium, the once great home of our beloved Tigers is being dismantled this month. The stadium, considered by many to be a grand ballpark and to many an eye sore as well, was abandoned in 1999 when Mike Illitch moved the team into Comerica Park.
Okay, okay, I'll admit that the stadium maybe couldn't be saved or renovated. But come on do we need another empty space. Why can't a piece of the stadium be saved for posterity? Or if the stadium could have been saved, why not have used it for outdoor concerts. Also what if a developer buys the property and backs out of the deal with the city at the last minute? Then you will another empty lot in Detroit. Doesn't the city have a enough of those already.
If Kwame Kilpatrick had used his brains instead of his loins, the city should have thought this through before the stadium is demolished. If I were head of this project, I would have done everything to renovate the ball park. If not, I would have saved part of the stadium for posterity and had a developer in a locked contract so that they couldn't back out.
Instead the ballpark is history and once again Kwame screwed with Detroit.

Joe Dumars needs to Get Smart!
Either Joe Dumars is the smartest man in basketball or this month he's losing his touch. Normally, I would agree with Joe Dumars judgement regarding the Pistons. This time however, I'm beginning to wonder if he's off his rocker.
After losing for the 3rd year in a row in the Conference finals, Dumars fired Flip Saunders and replaced him with Michael Curry. To go from a coach that has won season after season to a guy who hasn't proven himself. With all due respect, is he nuts?
Then to top it off, in the draft he trades the number 29 pick forward D.J. White to Seattle for UAB player Walter Sharpe. D. J. White would have a great accomplice to Jason Maxiel as a power forward. Sharpe, who was once declared ineligible to play in college hoops because of his academics, was arrested last year and has narcolepsy.
Am I missing something in this draft? Is Walter Sharpe going to be a great player? Or is this draft pick a bust? What does Dumars have up his sleeve, regarding Michael Curry? I know that Flip Saunders couldn't get us to the NBA finals, but come on, what about the players themselves.
Shouldn't they also be held accountable for the way that they were playing? And should Rasheed be traded or at least kept out of foul trouble? Also what about the rumors about other trades in the works. My suggestion is to keep the majority of the starters and maybe tweak it just a little by starting your bench more.
I don't mean to question Dumars, but I and other Pistons fans want to know. Will this team ever make it to the finals again? Only time will tell and I hope that Joe Dumars is right.

The Politcally Correct Posse Rides Again
Once again a public figure makes an inappropriate misquote. Once again the politically correct posse is back in action.
Last year it was Don Imus who misspoke. This time ESPN columnist Jemele Hill was quoted in her column “cheering for the Celtics is like saying Hitler was a victim. ” Luckily an editor took the reference out before the column was posted. She apologized for the statement and she was suspended.
Okay, I'll admit what she said was wrong and that she should have apologized but to be suspended for it, come on. Have we gotten so politically correct that we lost free speech. I'll agree she should thought about her words but isn't there more important things to get upset over than this.
We could get upset about the lack of jobs, the mortgage crisis, the falling dollar, the weather victims in Iowa, crime, the homeless, the lack of quality education in our biggest cities. Instead one of the biggest stories is a reporter who made a mistake.
Who hasn't put their foot in their mouth or miss wrote. If we were to fire everyone in the world who misspoke or offended anyone, then no one would have a job. Even Ms. Kitty has slipped up, not here of course.
The problem isn't the words, but what is the reason behind the words. My solution, we can put ourselves in anothers shoes, give others respect, and try to watch our words.

Demolition prove that there can be a winning football team iin Detroit.
Finally there is a winning football team in Detroit, that not many are aware of.
No it's not wishful thinking about the Lions, but rather the Detroit Demolition that we can be proud of. The Demolition, a team in the Independent Women's Football League is once again in the playoffs. They defeated the Wisconsin Warriors 37-0 on Saturday to advance. They are the odds on favorites to win the title for the 2nd straight year and their 6th in 7 years.
My questions is this: If the Demolition can win in football, what's wrong with the Lions? Is it the Rod Marinellis' fault? Should the Lions fire Matt Millen? Is the Lions play book the problem? Or does it take women to show men how to get it done?
Go Demolition, Beat Chicago, win one for us ladies!!

Note To Tigers Woods, have you heard of Wings fans.
This week, Tiger Woods said that no one watches hockey. I have one question, what planet does Tiger live on?
Yes, I'm well aware that hockey is not a big name sport, some can say the same for golf.
Hockey may not be a ratings winner, but people like it.
What gives Tiger Woods the right to attack a sport, let alone its' fans. What if somebody put down golf.

Penguins cool off Wings in game 5
In Stanley Cup Playoff games, this is one to remember.
What was supposed to be a dream game at home for the Wings, turned into a nightmare. After leading three to 2 in the third period, the Penguins Maxine Talbot scored a goal to tie the game, sending it into three overtime. After 90 second the Penguins scored on a goal by Petr Sykora to win the game 4-3, to send the Finals to Pittsburgh.
Okay Wings, here is my advice, you know how to win, just do it. Keep up your superb playing. Don't get tired, try to score more goals, and don't let Pittsburgh get away with anything. You have one more period to play and the Cup is in sight.
Then Wings fans will be dancing in the streets, when the Cup is back in Detroit.

Do you believe in Pistons magic? Way to go Chauncey!
Do you believe in Pistons magic?
The Pistons are two wins away from heading to the the Eastern Conference Finals for the 6th straight year after defeating the Orlando Magic 100-93. One of the wizards Chauncey Billups scored 28 points to help the team take a 2-0 series lead. Chauncey also was presented with the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award for his charity work.
Although the Pistons looked better in this round than the last one, they still have a lot of work to do. They need to stop blowing leads and concentrate on shutting the opposing teams down. They can't slack off and get too cocky. They also can't take anything for granted anymore.
Remember what happened in the 76ers series? They almost didn't make it to round two. Maybe they needed to be remained that winning isn't easy. Maybe they needed to play as a team. Maybe Flip Saunders is finally showing that he can coach.
If the Pistons want to win the Eastern Conference and get back to the Finals they have to keep up playing great basketball.
GO PISTONS, SWEEP ORLANDO!!
The Pistons are two wins away from heading to the the Eastern Conference Finals for the 6th straight year after defeating the Orlando Magic 100-93. The Lady Is A Champ
Talk about women drivers.
History was made when Danica Patrick became the first woman to win an IRL (Indy Racing League) event. She won the Japan 300 by beating her closest rival Helio Castroneve by more than 5 second in her 50th race start.
Not only is this a great race for Ms. Patrick, it is a victory for women in sports. It shows that women can now hold their own when competing with men. It also shows that women's sports should not take a back seat when it comes to coverage and funding.
Move over boys. Let us ladies show how it's done.

Pistons, Tigers give Minnesota twin spankings. It's good to be a Detroit fan today
Wahoo! Now that's what I'm talking about! Tigers take Twins series, Pistons finish out home games with a win.
The Tigers routed the Twins and swept the series 6-5 with a two run Miguel Cambera homer. The Pistons meanwhile mopped the floor with the Timberwolves 115-103.
While the Pistons continue to Dominate in basketball, the Tigers have been struggling lately. What was supposed to be another loss for the Tigers has reaffirmed hope in this team. Yes, while they still have a lot of games and a lot of issues that need to be handled to break 500, at least this is showing that the Tigers still have sharp claws. Now the Wings just have to finish off the Predators.
Go Wings, Tigers, Pistons!! Keep winning guys!

Wings soar as Tigers lose again. Tigers as contenders, HA!
I've had it! Now I'm really, really cheesed off!
While the Wings were out shooting the Nashville Predators 3-1 in the first game of their playoffs, the Tigers were being polished off by the Red Sox 12-6 in the last game of their series.
Many believed the Tigers to have highly talented players who were considered contenders for the World Series. Now it looks like a bunch of infants can out score them after 9 games.
The Tigers, the second most expensive payroll in the league, have proven that money can't always buy you talent. Yes, I'm well aware that it's only the beginning of the season and that you can't win every game, but come on 1 win out of 9 games.
You might as well pack it up and say game over. It's a lot less painful than another 153 games if they are going to play like this.
Let me know if they really start playing to win, maybe I'll be interested in watching.
They say that they're good players, PROVE IT!!

Hail to the Victors? HA!
So much for the number 1 seed.
The Wolverines were defeated by Notre Dame in the Frozen Four of college hockey 5-4. The heavliy favored team was no match for the skilled and quick underdogs.
GO BLUE, TAKE THE TIGERS WITH YOU!!

Tigers roar, Pistons run out of steam
If the Pistons are the 2nd seed in the playoffs, lately they're not acting like it.
While the Tigers soared to their first victory, the Pistons lost their second game in a row.
After losing to the hapless Knicks 98-94, they fell to the 76ers 101-94. I'm well aware that they are saving their starters for the playoffs, but enough already!
If they have the best team in the NBA , how come they aren't showing it. It's one thing to go easy towards the playoffs, but come on now. I know that you need to give some of your starters a rest, but you also have to keep giving your best. Let some of your bench prove themselves. You've got the goods, you might as well keep showing it off.
Good luck Guys!

Game 8 is GREEAAT for Tigers.
Whew! The Tigers finally won a game.
The Tigers, after losing the first seven games dismantled the Red Sox 7-2.
See Tigers, you can win games. Fans are proud of you. Keep up the great playing.
SPANK SOME MORE HOMERS!!
Unlucky 7 straight losses for the Tigers. Enough is Enough!!
If President Bush really wants to find weapons of mass destruction, he has to look no further than the Tigers dugout.
For 7 straight games, the Tigers lost again. They were declawed by the Red Sox 5-0 Tuesday.
What was supposed to be an incredible team this year has turned out be nothing less than a disaster in their first 7 games. I'm not going to hit the panic button yet but, what happened?
Did the players get hit in the head with too many balls and forgot how to play? Were they too busy counting their dough from their mega contracts? Do they have to go to remedial baseball class? Are they working together as a team? Did they lose their confidence? Did Matt Millen become the team president? Or is this just bad luck?
If the Tigers ever want to get back into the playoffs, Jim Leyland has to take better control of this team. He has to get the players to work together. He also has to figure why they are losing too much and correct the errors. He also has to remind his players why they were signed in the first place.
Maybe the Tigers will start winning again. SPANK SOME HOMERS FOR ME!!

Pistons celebrate 50 years as a franchise. Bill Davidson gets into the NBA Hall of Fame.
Congratulations are in order for the Detroit Pistons on celebrating 50 years as a NBA franchise and on being the second seed in the playoffs.
Kudos also go out to Bill Davidson, the Pistons owner on making it into the NBA Hall of Fame.
With such a great owner for the team, it's no wonder the Pistons and their bench will be hard to beat this year.
Go get em' guys!

Wings capture the Presidents trophy. Bring the Stanley Cup back to where it belongs-home to Detroit!
Way to go Wings for winning the Presidents cup!
For the fourth time in six years, the Red Wings have once again claimed the best record in the NHL. They won the Presidents' trophy after defeating the Columbus Blue Jackets 3-2.
Go Wings! Good luck in the playoffs. Bring the Stanley Cup back where it belong, home to Detroit!!

Tigers lose the home opener. Is this team the new Yankees?
Once again the Tigers played their home opener in front of capacity crowds. And once again they were defeated.
After signing Miguel Cabrera to one of the highest paid contracts in major league history and despite a stellar lineup, they couldn't hold on to their lead and were defeated by the Royals 5-4. Despite brilliant homers by Cabrera, Carlos Guillen and good pitching by Justin Verlander, they fell short in the 11th inning.
With all the great players and high contracts, my question is this. Are the Tigers becoming the New Yankees? Yes we have power hitters and a great lineup, but what happened? Did their egos get too big? Are they burned out? Or do they have their thumbs up their butts?
If spring training is an indicator of the season coming up, then Jim Leyland has a lot of tweaking to do with this team.
Don't blow this year Tigers.

Welcome spring! Tigers play ball again.
Spring means many things to many people. Some look forward to hearing robins. Some are ready to dodge the construction zones. Some are looking forward to longer days and warmer weather. For me, it's the sound of cheering crowds and the crack of the bats.
Once again the Tigers are playing baseball at Comerica Park. Once again they have a strong chance to go to the playoffs.
Good luck guys. Make Detroit proud. Spank some homers.

Patroits, Giants in the Super Bowl. Can New England have a perfect season?
Once again the New England Patriots are in the Super Bowl. This time they are going against Eli Manning and the New York Giants.
Not only is the Championship at stake, so is their shot at a perfect 19-0 season. Can they do the impossible on Feb 3rd? Can they be the first team to have a perfect season, even in the playoffs? Or will the Giants hand them their butts on a plate, like they did to Green Bay?
Stayed tuned! Same Super Bowl time, New Super Bowl channel!

Track star Marion Jones gets jail time. Shows that lying and steroid use doesn't pay
Once again an athlete who has taken steroids is in trouble. Once again, yawn.
This time Marion Jones was sentenced to six months in jail for lying about taking steroids. Not only had she lied about taking drugs, but she also had to give back the five medals that she won in Sydney.
My question is this, what happened to the integrity of athletes.? It's not just baseball that has the steroid cheaters, now it's the Olympics too. What happened to fair play? What happened to working hard for a goal? What happened to excelling at a sport by sacrificing years to achieve a dream? Now all athletes have to do to achieve greatness is swallow pills in a bottle.
Is the lust of fame, fortune and glory are more important than ethics? What message does this send to the young? That in order to win at life you have to cheat? Does this show that if you are not famous or on the top that you don't matter?
If the Olympics and pro sports wants to clean their act, they must first: impose stiffer penalties on the athletes who take them. In other words make them an example. Second: don't let trainers and coaches have accessibility to steroids. In other make it tougher for trainers to give athletes drugs. Third: have a strong policy that has some teeth to it, and better drugs tests. And fourth: stronger education about the issue.
By taking action, instead of reacting, maybe sports can get back to what it should be. Athletes excelling without drugs.

Pistons blow out Spurs, where was this team during the last two games
Once again the Pistons proved that they can win important games. After they have been defeated by both Boston and Dallas in the previous two games, they defeated the San Antonio Spurs by the score 90-80.
My question is this. What took the the Pistons so long to win a game and why can't this team be consistent in playing? Maybe they needed this mini slump to get their sync back. Maybe they should put Lindsey Hunter on the court more often. Maybe they should keep Rasheed Wallace from fouling out, like he usually does.
I'm well aware that the Pistons can't win every game, but at least they can try not to blow leads when they have them. Hopefully they not lose steam like they do in the second half and be the the team that we know that they are. The best team in the NBA.
Declaw those Bobcats!!
