Detroit Will Miss You, Sparky.

A true gentleman of baseball has left us.

The beloved former Tigers and Reds manager Sparky Anderson passed away Thursday from complications of dementia. Sparky was 76.

Sparky who, considered by many to be one of the best managers in the MLB., was the only manager to lead both A.L. and N. L. to a World Series Championship. He led the Reds to a championship in 1975 and the Tigers in 1984.

Thank you Sparky for being a class act. You will be missed.

Rogers Clemens Gets Indited. What A Tangled Web He Wove.

No matter what happens this time Roger (the Rocket) Clemens will be not be able to pitch his way out of this one.

The World Series and Cy Young Award winning pitcher was indited last week for alleged perjury during his testimony in 2008 to Congress regarding his use of steroids. According to Clemens, he swore under oath he never has taken HGH (human growth hormones) or anabolic steroids.
However there are reports that claim Clemens did take steroids.

Ok, who's really telling the truth? If the allegations are true, what does that say about ethics? What does it say to all the athletes who are clean and excel through hard work?

Is winning at all costs worth the risk of being caught? Is the league doing enough to clean up their sport? Even if he is found innocent, will his reputation ever recover? Can he ever be trusted again? Why was steroid use allowed in the first place?

Under the law, you're considered innocent until proven guilty. Even if Clemens is cleared of charges, many will question his character in the court of public opinion.  Once there is doubt, it's almost impossible to regain the publics' trust. Once trust is broken, it will take a long time to be forgiven.

If Roger Clemens wants to come out of this intact, he must tell the absolute truth. By telling the truth, maybe sports can finally be clean.

Please Roger, tell the TRUTH!

Farewell To A National Icon. Prayers Thoughts For George Steinbrenner and Yankees Family

One of the most storied and beloved baseball owners is no longer with us.

George Steinbrenner, the long time owner of the World Series Yankees passed away suddenly Tuesday morning in Tampa of a massive heart attack. He was 80. Under Steinbrenner's stewardship, the Yankees made several playoff appearances and won 7 World Series. The most recent World Series win came last year.

Mr. Steinbrenner was a true original. He will be missed by Yankee and baseball fans everywhere.

Bless you George Steinbrenner, wherever you are.

Lebron James has chosen a new team. Let the ego games begin!

Everyone can back to their lives now. The self proclaimed basketball king Lebron James has chosen to play with a new team.

After much fanfare and speculation on what team Lebron James would end up playing for, he answered the question in a 1 hour media zoo Thursday night. His big revelation that drew in many viewers, the Miami Heat.

My revelation as your sports goddess about the media circus surrounding his announcement: is big friggin deal. And why such a waste of prime time air.

So what if he's chosen a new team. It's not like it's the end of humanity as we know it. It's not like he's cured cancer or ended poverty. He gave Cavalier fans a virtual middle finger. In other words he showed the world what he cares about most, himself.

Lebron is no better than anyone else. He's no different than any other athlete with an inflated ego who thinks that they're better because they have fame. Fame is only valuable if you do something positive with it.

Fame is no different than a high school cafeteria where you're allowed to sit at the cool kids table for awhile.  In other words, you're only good as your last win. After 7 years in the NBA, Lebron has proven that he can't live up to his hype.

If Lebron is supposed to be the best, I feel sorry for South Beach.

The former center, captain, Stanley Cup winner and gold medalist of the Wings is leaving to become general manager of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Be An All Star for Team Earth

April 22nd marks a special day.

All over the world millions are remembering the 40th birthday of Earth Day. Earth Day was started to bring awareness to environmental and conservation issues. Shouldn't awareness about the environment be every day and not just highlighted one day a year

It can. There are many simple, painless ways that you can help the planet every day.

You can start by simply recycling. Here is a photo of some of the many items that appear in my recycling bin. By recycling you are not only making less garbage, but what you recycle can often be used to make new items as well. There are also many ways that you can even recycle some used electronics. You can call your city for more info for what can and can't be recycled.

Instead of plastic bags, you can use canvas or ask for paper ones at your local stores. You can buy local and organic produce at your local markets.  You can buy products that use less packaging. You can bring a coffee mug instead of using styrofoam or plastic cups at work school or home.  You can even remove your name from junk mailing lists to stop unwanted mail and create less waste.

You can use environmentally safe cleaning products. You can use cloths instead of paper towels for cleaning. You can use less energy turning off lights and electronics when not in use. You can even support businesses that are green.

By making a few small changes you can impact our environment greatly. We all share this world together. Why not do your part to keep it clean.

Make a difference. Make Earth Day every day!

Go Wings, Crush the Coyotes!

If you told me that the Red Wings were behind in the playoffs, I would have never believed it.

After making it to two Stanley Cup finals in a row and winning the Cup in 2008, the Wings are behind the Coyotes 2 games to 1 in the first round. After another loss to Phoenix 4-2 on Sunday, the Wings post season could be over soon.

Ok guys, no more excuses. Show Phoenix who's the best team in the NHL. Show them why you were the 2008 Champs. Let's make it back to the Finals.

Beat the snot out of the Coyotes, GO WINGS!

Look Who's Going To The Final Four Party. Well Done Sparty!

Don't be alarmed! Hell hasn't frozen over yet. The world has not fallen off its' axis.

It's a rare sight to see a Wolverine fan telling Spartan Coach Tom Izzo and his team well done during March Madness. The MSU Spartans are heading to their second Final Four appearance in a row and their sixth in 11 years by beating Tennessee 70-69 on Sunday.

Thank you Tom Izzo for being a class act and giving this state something to be positive about.

Can Tiger Woods Be Redeemed?

The world can breathe a big sigh of relief. Tiger Woods has apologized. It's time for the media to give him some space and privacy.

After months of speculation and rumors of many affairs,  Tiger has apologized for his behavior. In a 14 minute televised speech,  he admitted that he had affairs and was sorry for his behavior. He asked for privacy for his family and blamed nobody but himself for his actions. He mentioned that he was going into treatment the next day and did not say when he would return to playing golf.

Ok, the apology is a nice touch, but many questions still remain unanswered. Why did he crash that night, and why such secrecy around it? Why did he cheat? What took him so long to finally admit his mistakes? Can he still be a good role model? Can Tiger redeem himself in the public's eyes or is he finished?

Don't get me wrong. No one is a saint. We all have said or done things that we regret.  Nobody is perfect.

If Tiger wants to regain his creditability and save his marriage, it's going to take a great deal of effort and time. Once respect, trust and creditability are broken, it's very hard to regain it. No matter what happens, it can never be what it once was. You make apologies and try to make amends forever, but some doubt still remains. Once betrayed, you ask yourself, can you ever trust  again. Is there anyone to still believe in?

Ok, Tiger you said you're sorry, that was the easy part. Now here is the toughest part. You want us to believe in you again. Prove that you have changed.

You want to be redeemed, this time you're going to have to really earn it!

Prayers Go Out to the Loved Ones of Luger Nodar Kumaritashvili.

Prayers go out to the loved ones and teammates of Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili.

Kumaritashvil passed away Friday after crashing during a practice run hours before the opening ceremonies. The 21 year year old was near the end of his practice run, when his sled slammed into a pole coming out of a turn.

Even though we may be from different countries and speak many different languages, we are all united by our love of sports.

May his spirit and the message of the games endure.

Is Rich Rod Right?

Rich Rodriguez is making news again.

This time the University of Michigan head football coach is in the news for defending one of his prospects Demar Dorsey.  Dorsey was involved in 3 home invasions when he was younger. Although he was arrested in the incidents, he confessed  to 2 crimes but was never convicted.  Ok, he is considered to be one of the best defensive backs around, but is Rich Rod doing the right thing by giving him a chance at Michigan?

Yes, I'm aware that some people can turn their life around. Can Dorsey stay on the right course? Is he what was needed at Michigan?

Rodriguez is rubbing some Michigan fans the wrong way lately. Whether it's been two losing seasons under his watch, alleged NCAA violation over practices, his recruiting of Dorsey, many are questioning if Rich Rod was the right choice as coach. With all the questions of his tactics surrounding Rich Rod, why was he hired in the first place? Is Rich Rod the right fit for Michigan?

Only time will tell if Rich Rod deserves to keep his job at Michigan. My advice to Rodriguez,   start proving why you deserved to be hired as coach. If you really want to keep your job, act like it.

GO BLUE!

Another Steroid Confession, Yawn.

Here we go again. another athlete confesses to steroids use. Yawn!

This time time Mark McGwire the one time batting champ of the St. Louis Cardinals, confessed this week that he used steroids in the 90's. After several years of denying it and even testifying to Congress that he was clean, he is now admitting that he also used HGH (Human Growth Hormone).

Yes, I'm well aware that he is the hitting coach for the Cardinals, but why come clean now. What does he have to prove? That all will be forgiven, after he lied? What does this say to the athletes who are clean? What does this say to our youth who looked up to athletes role models? Should his records be erased? Should he be allowed in the Hall Of Fame?

Look I'm well aware that no one is a saint. I'm also well aware that after the baseball strike of 94, the single season home run race brought many back to the sport. But why was doping allowed in the first place?

If the MLB wants to keep the game stay clean, then they should do a better job of keeping steroids out of the game. Then maybe fans can enjoy the game played the way that it is supposed to be.

Athletes striving to be their best through hard work, not cheating.

Prayers and Thoughts for Earthquake Victims. How to Help

Prayers and thoughts go out to the victims, families and nation of Haiti who are suffering from a devastating earthquake Tuesday afternoon.

The 7.0 magnitude earthquake left thousands of people dead, and many still under rubble.

The earthquake which took place 15 miles southwest of the capital Port -Au-Prince rocked the Caribbean and could be felt as far away as Cuba.

The earthquake has devastated on of the poorest countries in the Western Hemisphere and has left many without basic needs that we sometimes take for granted

While we can't prevent the earthquake from happening, we are not totally powerless.

Under the section "Pay it Forward.." of this site, are some links to organizations that are helping in relief efforts.

It's located on the left side of the page of all my blogs. Whatever you can do thanks.

Despite being from different regions, we are all on this planet together.

Be safe and take care. port
